Problems have been plaguing North Texas polling places this election day from Dallas to Fort Worth.
Voter complaints are coming into NBC 5 and to local election workers.
At the Rosemeade Rec Center in Carrollton, workers are playing catch up. Polls opened 45 minutes late because of computer problems.
"I've been in line 2 hours. When you have 5 booths and one person voting, it's totally inefficient," said Carrollton voter Mike Goff. He didn't emerge from the voting booth until well after 9 a.m.
An election judge at the Rec Center tells NBC 5 that the line backed-up after the electronic check-in system had a meltdown the first thing in the morning. "It's all about being prepared. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best," said Goff. The doors didn't open until 7:45 a.m. Workers are now writing down voters' information. "It's just frustrating it's this inefficient," Goff said.
Some people are tired of waiting at the rec center and leaving before getting a ballot in the box.
In Dallas, elections administrator Toni Pippins-Poole says new judges are struggling to learn their new job.
Recent redistricting is also causing problems. Philando Cooks was first in line around 6:30 a.m. at Our Redeemer Church and School. He wanted to get a jump on voting before work. He wasn't inside very long. "Rejected," said Cooks.
Our Redeemer apparently wasn't his assigned polling place, so he went to the location workers told him was the correct spot, only to be re-routed back to Our Redeemer where he started. "I'm not satisfied, but I've got to do my duty, so go stand back in line," said Cooks.
Cooks wasn't alone.
"I've been in Dallas 29 years and always gone to the same place, until the last presidential election, which didn't make sense. Now, they're telling me to go back over there," said Dallas voter Debbie Griffey.
The elections department sent out workers to Our Redeemer to help guide frustrated voters.
"It didn't take long, just a couple minutes to vote. There's a little bit of confusion sometimes because this is an early voting location, so you get people in line this isn't their home precinct. That slowed things down a bit," said Dallas voter Cade Hamner.
Still Debbie Griffey isn't letting it deter her from making her voice heard. "That's okay, my vote is still going to count. I'll get it in today," said Griffey.
In Tarrant County Robin Garrison reported the polling place at Trinity Terrace at 1600 Texas Street was not open at 7 a.m. and a huge line had formed. The Tarrant County Elections Administration told NBC 5 some inexperienced poll workers were opening the site, but it sent another crew to assist and the location was open by 7:50 a.m.
